Children get to know their neighborhood before they learn about the larger world around them. Encourage them to notice and talk about what makes their neighborhood a special place to live. For example:
- What are their favorite places to visit in the neighborhood?
- Who do they know in the neighborhood?
- How do people get around in their neighborhood–walking, bicycling, driving, taking a bus or train?
- What makes their neighborhood different from other neighborhoods they've visited?
